You are a gifted storyteller.
Everyday, before you've even had breakfast, I guarantee you've already began telling your story. Small snippets of the narrative before tea and toast, you've already chosen your voice and the tone of the daily plot.
"I'm fat, stupid, pissed off and tired" Insert the appropriate text for you but you get the idea. "I can't live without him". "I'm a terrible mother". "I'm an addict". "I'm a purple unicorn." Whatever. All of the phrases being the language of definition and the glue that keeps us in a perpetual state of STUCK.
You behave appropriately to the introduction. Like all good fairytale characters, you follow along with the plot line. Shouting, eating, smoking, crying or perhaps laughing, loving, cheering and celebrating. Nothing actually happens until it happens in your own head. In your own words. With your own permission.
It's all about what we allow ourselves to say in the space of our own head. This is what determines whether we hold on (inhale) or let go (exhale). Changing, releasing, clearing-it all comes down to the language of letting go.
Many years ago I had a particular plot line on repeat. I was a massive victim, fat, stupid, bad with money and men and pretty much everyone exceeded the level of my tolerance. I had been angry for so long I had to look for new ways to channel my wealth of pissed off! Give me feminism, child protection, religious extremists, animal rights and The Bachelor. I could get really bloody mad over a few prom queens and a swarthy thirty something in a suit.
That was pretty much my thing. Everyday I made it happen. I held on and on, wondering why I was unhappy? I quite literally would hold onto my breath. Wondering what was wrong with me? Never for one moment realising that I was the head writer in this story that held me hostage.
Change happens. But not until we speak it so.
Do you have something you'd like to change or let go of? For six weeks I'll be running a special class built around the language of letting go. It will be a 90min restorative class with a 30 min workshop component at the end. I'm not going to charge any extra for the class- I just ask that you make a six week commitment to attend. (You'll still need to pay for your class and you can see the price of class passes here)
No catches. It's my way of saying a big fat thank you to the universe for saving me from myself. Anyone can attend, it's open to all levels of fitness so feel free to extend the invitation to a friend if you know someone who's struggling. No prior yoga experience necessary.
You can come Thursday mornings (930-1130am) or Thursday evenings (630-830pm). Places are limited to six per class (first in best dressed). If you have any questions please call me on 0430 222 274.
