I have never been one for patience.
The creepy crossness of the lack of right now has often been a problem for me. Both in my life and my yoga practice. I was one of those students that wanted to be rocking the pretzel poses in my first class, I know the frustration of waiting, practicing, praying- I also know the thrill of YES when the heels touch the floor for the very first time or you upend your life in headstand.
It is the elation of practice that can only be attained with practice.
I’ve seen a bit of that this week and it’s truly been my joy of joys! The look on someones face when it all falls into place and our body surprises us! Strength that has bubbled up from somewhere and made a tidy home in our triceps or abdominals. Even just the simple pleasure of truly accepting the breath after a time spent wrestling with ragged respiration.
How can anyone not love yoga?
The same patience could be applied to finding our yoga tribe. The tentative wariness of working out different personalities and making new friends. Accepting, trusting and making a few leaps here and there. A diverse group with a common interest in warm tea, kind words and yoga. A few kilos lost, strength gained and friendship found.
As we head toward the end of the year it’s wonderful to see those little moments of progress. Things that weren’t possible becoming so. It’s nice to see people getting to know each other and enjoying classes. The last six months have been a wonderful journey for me. I have enjoyed getting to know new students and have been honoured that faithful past students have followed me to my new home.
As we wind up the year, if any students have some feedback for me, I’d love to hear your point of view. Restorative is proving to be popular- What’s not to like about the slow deliciousness of easing into body awareness, stretching out and tuning in? It’s my kind of class!
If anyone would like to purchase a gift voucher for someone you fancy might like some yoga-love I am selling $50 vouchers for three classes. (You can of course also purchase a six or twelve class passes too). I also have mats and props for sale, just let me know what you'd like and I'll bring them to class.
Classes will run for the evenings until Thursday the 22nd December. This Saturday the 17th will depend on numbers but so far it's looking like it will go ahead. We will break for a few weeks and return with the school year 2017. The first class will be Tuesday the 24th January.
Finally I would like to say thank you to all of my students. I am blessed to know every one of you and I genuinely look forward to celebrating all your yoga victories. My business has so little to do with money and so much to do with you! I love the opportunity to learn more about you, off the mat. You are all interesting, juicy creatures, that I look forward to seeing every week.
